[Solved] Truncated drawings

Post by Duncan » Tue Oct 22, 2019 1:04 am

I often want to print a drawing in 1:1 scale, but need to remove a section of the drawing to make it fit onto a given page size. Is there any way to truncate a drawing, whilst keeping the dimensioning correct?

Hi Duncan,

I'm afraid it can't be done automated as far as I know.
For one: There is no information in the drawing on what is cut out.

But it is still the most appropriate way to fit it in a drawing.

Before truncating:
A solution would be to pre-copy the 'Measured Value' field to the 'Label' field in the Property Editor.

After truncating or drafted as truncated:
Edit the 'Label' field in the Property Editor and enter your value.

Two methods:

1. Select the corresponding dimension, check the Property Editor for "Specific Properties" and write into "Label" the needed value. Now the value is static and won't change with any modification. Rest of the dim functionality is still intact.

2. Select the corresponding dimension and use the "Explode" tool to break the functionality of that dimension down. Then edit the dim text.
Note: this will "destroy" the functionality of a dim and you can't reverse this event. Yes, as long as it makes sense to use "undo" you can reverse it but that is only a short process window ...

Depending of the situation in your drawing I recommend to use Method 1 most of the time ...
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.
