Qt Framework porting

Post by ryancousins » Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:42 pm

Andrew,

I have noticed in GitHub a lot of recent activity related to moving over to Qt6, as you mentioned here. https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9708.

I'm just curious if moving to the latest version of the framework generally yields any useful improvements on your end or performance improvements on the user end, or is it mostly just the necessary hassle to keep QCAD running on a supported version of Qt?

Qt 6 is mostly needed for the Apple M1/M2 hardware and also new MacOS versions. Qt 5 does not (officially) support these new platforms.

There are no other real advantages of Qt 6.
