What are the rules for naming Qcad .dxf files for safe saving please?
I have a history of either losing access to file, or them disappearing altogether. I want to follow correct naming protocol to ensure this does not continue.

I don't think file names are your problem. Perhaps the best advice I can give you is to do a fully automatic, regular backup. In all my years of working with computers on various systems, I've actually never witnessed a file that disappeared. However, I did accidentally delete files, misplace them or make changes I later regretted. These are all things you can only fight with backups.

With external hard drives being cheap and automated backup software readily available, there is really no reason not to do a fully automatic backup at least every day, better more often.
