When dealing with large or complex drawings which are slow to zoom in / out, you might want to adjust the following preferences:

Switching to Draft Mode

View > Draft Mode

Deactivate Highlighting of Entities under the Cursor

Sometimes it is not the display that is slow but finding and highlighting the entity closest to the mouse cursor. This is especially true for dense drawings with a lot of details. You can disable entity highlighting under:
Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Behavior > Highlight entity within range (uncheck)

Reducing Arc Resolution

Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Minimum angle step for rendering arcs (degrees) (increase)

Hatches

Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Timeout for Hatch rendering (decrease)

Dashed Lines

Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Display entities with more than N dashes as continuous (decrease)
