[solved] QCAD Versions

Post by johng » Mon Oct 17, 2022 7:59 am

I have just bought and will be installing QCAD. I have tried it once in the Trial Version but you don't really get a chance to use it properly there, so to QCAD I'm a complete Newby. I have however successsfully used LibreCAD and decided on QCAD due to the Text Limitations there. My requirements are largely electrical and single line drawings so 2D is good for my needs. I could not find an elctrical forum so will use the others and perhaps the Deutch too.

Question: I downloaded two versions QCAD qcad-3.26.4.13-pro-win64-installer.msi; qcad-3.27.8-pro-win64-installer.msi

What is the difference? As a Newby which should I use?

Thanks in advance

It is recommended to use always the latest QCAD Pro release. In this case the 3.27.8.
The differences can be found in the changelog below:
https://www.qcad.org/en/changelog
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Thanks, so from the Change Log, it looks like no concept of "Stable Version" in QCAD developement

"Stable Version" means running stable on all platforms.
That doesn't mean bug-free.

Could that mean that V 3.26.4.13 is likely to be more "bug free" than the current version?

3.26.4.13 was downloaded from the "Snapshots" folder of your download page. Please read the "Information about Snapshots", also on your download page:
Snapshots

Snapshots are packages with the current development version of QCAD. Snapshots should be considered unstable and are not intended for production use.
The current stable release is 3.27.8, that's the one you should use.
