So far everything I have tried to use works, however the search function in the reference manual returns the following:

I feel a bit lost without it as I am not that familiar with the nomenclature.

Thanks for the report. It looks indeed like under Linux the search tool does not work as well as on other systems. In particular, there's no stemming for the search terms which means that "arrow" will not find "arrows", etc.
Perhaps the (unofficial) single document PDF reference manual serves you better in this case:
