when going from an old AutoCAD to QCAD, I get objects not part of the drawing

Post by georgegraz » Wed Nov 23, 2022 2:18 pm

See the part of a drawing attachment. Also, in trying to fix this, I can't right to left the mouse to select any objects in the window.
Thanks
George

Hi,
Your drawing has Z coordinate which QCAD cannot handle. Flatten your drawing with Misc menu

J-J, Thanks for the reply. I tried just selecting the flatten command, didn't do anything. I tried selecting the area, then selecting the flatten command. Not sure how to use the command. Google doesn't help.
Thanks
George

J-J workaround works flawless! Flatten a 3D drawing will set all Z values to 0. That is not what you can see on first sight in Model_Space but it will make the drawing processable in a 2D application like QCAD.

No selection required! Just launch below Menu/Misc/Modify the tool "Flatten drawing to 2D" and it is imminently executed.

Try this again after you used the flatten tool ...
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

It doesn't appear to do anything. The black objects are still there. Is there somewhere that tells you it has 3D objects? On the complete drawing, that is the only place it has that.
Thanks

Sorry, not sure what you mean with that. Please provide a screenshot on this "black objects".

A selected entities will show in the QCAD Property Editor z-values >0. Note: Z values are not shown by default - you have to activate it in Application Preferences ...

... and this is what you will see in a 3D program.

Husky & ,J-J,
Thanks very much. Enabled seeing the Z now. I also can select part of an object going from left to right. Have a great day.

Hi,

May I remark that there are 220 Face Entities in your drawing.
Some are face on and some are not.

What we see as lines can be a Face entity on its side.
Flatten to 2D the contour re-traces the displayed line twice.

Faces explode to the outer contour as closed Polylines.
One can not create Face entities in QCAD but it supports them.

Regards,
CVH
