[solved] CAM module - invisible tabs

Post by K0nrad » Sun Aug 14, 2022 9:37 pm

Hi,
Recently, I found out that tabs (CAM module) are only visible on layer 0. If I turn this layer off, the tabs will disappear, which is very inconvenient for me. Usually I create a drawing using multiple layers. Layer 0 contains the frame and the info table only. When the drawing is ready and verified, I add a layer on which I create a copy of the drawing just for g-code generation (sometimes my drawing has to be slightly modified for cnc purposes). Unfortunately, it means that I cannot see the tabs. I would like to ask for the correction of this option.

Best Regards

Konrad

QCAD/CAM Pro 3.27.6
Windows 10.

What's about chnanging the tab layer from 0 to XYZ in the block list?

Best place to ask for features or reporting a bug would be:
https://www.qcad.org/bugtracker

Here in the forum will it get lost ...
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.
If a thread is considered as "solved" please change the title of the first post to "[solved] Title..."

Hi,
I think that tab visibility should be directly related to the layer. I will report it as you suggested. Thanks!

There is indeed no reason why a frame or an info table must be on the default layer 0.
But I fully agree, you may have noticed that tabs are simply drawing entities that are generated on layer 0.

Why not on a layer called 'tabs'.
That would not be a violation of the use of layers to group things that look alike.
I do see an issue in backwards compatibility ... :?

Another remark is that it is common to have A) A drawing, a design with e.g.: construction lines, paper_spaces, pictures, ....
And B) A reduced set or sets for CAM export what still can be adapted for cnc purposes.
file B would not require a frame, info or a paper layout.

K0nrad,
Loading the example file from Bugtracker FS#2388 displayed fine over here.
With layer 0 hidden and frozen.

The difference would be:
App.Prefs. .. Layer .. Compatibility .. Layer 0 behaves differently
