[solved] wrong line thickness importing dwg

Post by Giuliano69 » Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:23 am

Hi all!
I noticed that in many dwg IMPORTED document, the thickness size is wrong: many times it is huge and almost useless...
The thickness of the drawing elements get their values "from layer"; it seems that Qcad has problems reading the "original" line thickness from layer

Clearly, when the dwg was created (with Autocad) the thickness was thinner.... and if they reopen the file, the thickness shows on Autocad as it should be...
But when I import the file in Qcad, it seems that the import filter is having problem reading the thickness property of the layer ... and assume a wrong value....

The situation get even worst when there is an block object: it does not change the thickness simply changing the property of the layer, but need to open the object and fix the line thickness....
Furthermore, even the line used to draw the text shows such thickness IMPORT problem

After describing the bug.... Some Questions:
  • Have you ever experienced such behavior ?
  • Is it a Qcad bug, of a dwg file limitation ?
  • How is it possible that the another cad program, with the SAME files, get the right thickness?
  • Is it possible a "general settings" fix to this issue, or do I have to fix by hand layer from layer ?

The drawing unit is set to Millimeter (Edit > Drawing Preferences > General > Drawing Unit).
The total width of the plan in the drawing is about 18mm. At this thumbnail size, lineweights will indeed show as quite thick.

As far as I know, Autocad does not show lineweights at all by default.

Potential solutions:
- Correct the drawing unit / scale of your drawing
- Switch to screen-based linetypes (View > Screen-based linetypes)

Hi,
I have noticed a similar thing,
if I just click on a file from some other software to open it, I get what you describe.
but if I first open Qcad and import the file, all is well
I'm not sure if this is the same as what you're going through but you can try it.

thanks vicme for your suggestion...
Unfortunately I tried with the present file, but with the SAME behaviour...
When I face the same problem with a new file, I will remember your advice and will test it again :-)

Thanks Andrew for your advice... IT WORKED...

BUT now I have a new PROBLEM
When I am dimensioning an old file, a NEW dialog appears, claiming that the scale factor for the dimension is NOT 1:1
The quoted dimension i crazy.... Indeed I found a strange scale factor (1288.50 ) that I cannot explain... If I set it to 1:1 it comes back to normality...

I tried the "Drawing preferences" but I did not find the solution..

WHERE or HOW can I fix this behavior ? I must now fix by hand dimension after dimension.... :-(
