Hi,
I am having terrible problems exporting this dxf file to PDF.
Keeps showing down QCAD to the point of crashing.
Can someone please try and convert it to a PDF and in Landscape ?
As attached.
If there any way of avoiding this problem ?
Thanks,

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
Why I'm doing this???? Ah yeh ..... because it is Friday.
The pdf is to large (> 100MB) for the forum. You can download the pdf from this download link:
https://filetransfer.io/data-package/F7kwJoox#link
The file will only be available for a few days!

That is pretty simple - just pay attention to that what is said in this forum

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
It seems that QCAD users are into plants these days ...
Is that really common on a Friday for you, Husky?
I would like to add this reference: https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?t=8390
And this one too: https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php? ... 817#p29817
In: viewtopic.php?t=8343&p=33098#p32855
Trial 2 worked out. (Importing blocks in a suited scale)
And the picture method was even better.
Only a few pixels wide they don't have any details at all.
Most plants blocks are again very tiny ... With huge block reference scales, scaled blocks in scaled blocks and so on.
Details are very high to get a few (1577) colored 'blobs' on paper. (forgive me the expression )
Can I asked you the following:
Is this your 20 by 4m plant bed scaled to 200 by 100? viewtopic.php?t=8405
Why are the plants round? They should look squeezed as the scale is non-uniform.
Are you aware that it is drawn as 200m by 100m? With plants about 3 meters wide?
On the paper is mentioned 1:50 (f0.02) but the actual paper scale is f0.000748 or rather 1:1337 ...
'Lobelia erinus' = block 'Alyssum Lobularia maritima' scaled f1000 = block '???' scaled f1.0, itself about 3mm wide.
= 216 polylines 0.000037 long with global width 0.00004 to show as little squares (= problematic)
+ 64 polylines as simple line segments (why polys?)
+ 16 tapered green polylines
Used 289 times with a total entity count of 85k.
'Sweet Alyssum Lobularia Maritima' = block 'Drawing2-plant-f03' scaled f118.8 = block 'A$C507E7ACC' scaled f0.81, itself also about 3mm wide.
= 604 Line segments
+ 304 ellipse arcs, what are in fact pairs of semi-circles (= problematic as higher order entities)
Used 337 times with a total entity count of 306k.
Now remark the naming swap here ...
'Limnanthes douglasii' = block 'Sweet Alyssum Lobularia Maritima' scaled f0.726 = block 'A$C0388573D scaled f0.99637, itself 4.7 meter wide.
= 4 Hatches with 36 loops in total
Used 79 times with a total loop count of 2844.
'Snapdragons' = block 'Sdg' scaled f1000 = block '???' scaled f1, itself again about 3mm wide.
= 56 fitpoint splines
+ 4 ellipses
Used 85 times, 5100 higher order entities.
And this goes on ....
... A calculated guess is that there are about 500k entities to render (about 288 per plant),
scaled up from scaled and that scaled down to paper.
I can not export it to pdf so be lucky that Husky could.
Regards,
CVH

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
Thanks so much Huskey.
You must have a very nifty PC there too.
The 'Key area' "images" to not come through on PDF But the PDF conversion, gets it over the line !
And thanks CVH, will have to think more about optimisation,
I was hoping that converting the elements into blocks for the library, would make sure
that I would not run into trouble.
Is there a way of keeping track of the number of blocks used,
as is used more typically with engineering and BOM(Bill of materials) ?

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
Yes, that is what I used to list some details
Menu > Misc > Block > Export Block List
But it doesn't list the Block structure like the layer list does.
So there are blocks only used once in another block and that block may be use many times.

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
You didn't provide the images Here is explained how it works in QCAD:

Re: Having terrible problems exporting dxf file to PDF
Thanks Huskey.
I'm am using Linux.
Now from that link you sent, I assume now the path requirements are relative as in same folder & also recursive.
It would be handy if when linking / embedding images that there was a 'tool tip' note in QCAD for guidance
for users, to make sure it works, as hoped for !
