Hello,
I have a dwg from a customer,
i think, it has been created with AutoCAD.
It has 30 MiB.
I have a strong PC (RAM 32GiB, 8 Core)
When I try to open the drawing,
QCad opens the drawing (after 5min), but than it freezes.
With much patience I can do some view-operations on the drawing.
But I cannot do modifications.
There are some crazy lines in the Drawing,
I want to delete them.
And may be, that there are 3d-Elements,
which I also would like to delete.
I see at the layer-view, that all layers are locked,
but I can't select any layer to unlock it.
Is there a way to open the drawing without the critical elements?
Is there a way to get an detailed log while opening into an extra file?
Is there a chance or must I buy Autocad?
Greetings,
Holger

Re: QCAD Pro freezes at try to open AutoCAD dwg
Hi Holger,
to be honest - I've not much good news for you ...
Avoid scrolling with the mouse wheel, using the [+] / [-] keys has less rendering what makes zooming faster,
Working with a "View List" can make navigation more pleasant,
Additional you could try to divide the drawing into two or three drawings. Without knowing the structure of your drawing I can't tell how practical that would be ...
Tip: Save the drawing after every successful manipulation

QCAD is not really built for very large drawings. 30MB will bring it to the limits.
You can try: After opening the drawing switch to "Draft mode" below View,
Avoid scrolling with the mouse wheel, using the [+] / [-] keys has less rendering what makes zooming faster,
Working with a "View List" can make navigation more pleasant,
Try to get rid of them with Misc / Modify / "Flatten Drawing to 2D",
Try to unlock them all together with Menu / Layer "Unlock all Layers" and/or "Thaw all Layers",
Additional you could try to divide the drawing into two or three drawings. Without knowing the structure of your drawing I can't tell how practical that would be ...

That question has to be answer by yourself ....
