Background color
HI,
I'm not sure if this is a bug, or my own stupidity.
* Windows 10, QCAD 3.28.1*
When I go to Edit: Drawing Preferences: Printing : Colors and change the Background Color to something other than white, everything works as expected—meaning I can see the colour when looking at the Paper_Space. However when I save, close, and re-open the picture, it appears to have reset.
I have been trying to work out why (because just changing the background color itself isn't a complicated task) and on one occasion the Background Color DID remain after re-opening the file, but I have no idea what I did differently in that one instance. Maybe QCAD just liked yellow and hates all the other colours.
Using the preset colours or a custom colour doesn't seem to make any difference in behaviour.
Anyone else noticed this?
Regards,
Derek

Re: Background color
No, I can't reproduce that behavior. I'm sure you are aware that changing anything below Drawing Preferences effects only the particular drawing itself, aren't you?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Re: Background color
Odd,
Changed the background of a drawing to blue, saved, closed, closed QCAD.
On re-opening the background of the print preview or any layout is blue but the Drawing preferences say it is White.
Derek, remind that on re-opening a drawing, it is displayed in Model_Space.
One can alter the drafting background in Application Preferences.

CVH

Here you change the paper color.

Re: Background color
And after re-re-opening ... Sorry, it is still blue.
Re: Background color
- Yep, I understand that distinction, and was expecting the same drawing to open up again with the Print colour I set when I had it open.
- Yeah, I realise this. But I can see how it might be a common point of confusion.
Okay, so here's what I'm doing, step by step:
* I open my drawing of the helix. It has a white background in both Model and Paper spaces.
* I place the drawing on the Paper Space using a Viewport (VT) and a separate layer (unimaginatively called 'Layer1') * I go to Edit: Drawing Preferences: Printing : Colors and change the Background Color to a custom cream colour.
* I can see this colour in the Paper Space. * I save and close the drawing.
** reopen the drawing, go to the Paper Space, And it's changed back to white. Baffled.
The only way I have been able to get the Background Color to stay fixed seems to be to change the colour before I do ANYTHING else with the document. Before I add any layers, drawings, etc.
Odd.
I can't see that I'm doing anything wrong, but I must be. Somehow.

Derek

Re: Background color
Derek,
Based on that printing does not start when in preview mode and using menu File .. Print.
But it prints when using the 'Print...' button in the Option Toolbar in preview mode.
Try accessing the Drawing Preferences by the button on the Option Toolbar in preview mode.

Re: Background color
Thanks for the suggestion CVH, I'll see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for confirming.

- That's a relief. I feel marginally less stupid now.andrew wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 10:42 amConfirmed as bug:

Re: Background color
Thanks CVH for the suggestion. I tried selecting the Model Space, and then using CTRL+SHIFT+P for Print Preview, and then changing the page colour by accessing the Drawing Preferences button on the toolbar, and it seems to be behaving as I expected.
Thanks.
Derek
