[Solved]Can I get dimentions in Inches & a fraction without feet?

Post by DaleEltoft » Mon Feb 06, 2023 7:41 pm

I'd very much like to design in metric but here in the US that's like swimming against the current. So Imperial it is. However, feet-inch-fraction is annoying when thinking about lengths. What I would prefer is Inch-fraction (4' 9 1/2" ==>> 57 1/2"). Kind of half way to a metric like system.

I tried converting a drawing to inches (Edit>Convert Drawing Unit...) but that gave me inches with a decimal fraction. Since we don't have rulers marked like that, I don't believe it practical. What I would like to do is have QCAD do dimensions as inch-fractions rather than inch-decimal.

Is that possible? How?

hi,

For the current drawing see menu Edit >> Drawing Preferences.
For defaults for new drawings see menu Edit >> Application Preferences.

For new set drawing unit to inch, for existing drawings you need to convert to inches if not already in inches.
See menu Edit >> Convert Drawing Unit (CU).
Set Dimension Settings >> Label Format >> Linear Dimensions >> Format to Fractional.

That should display dimensions in fractional inches.

Regards,
CVH

If you set your drawing unit to Inch under:
Edit > Drawing Preferences > General > Drawing Unit > Drawing unit

And the dimension format to Fractional under:
Edit > Drawing Preferences > Dimension > Dimension Settings > Label Format > Linear Dimensions > Format: Fractional

That will give you dimension labels in the format 123 4/5 with the number indicating the distance in Inches.
