Changing Layer Attributes

Post by RLARMER » Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:23 am

I am new to QCAD. I am self-taught in Autocad and now reintroducing myself to the world of QCAD.

I have searched this topic but seems that perhaps QCAD does not offer this functionality. I have an architectural floor plan with about 5 layers. The layers are messed up and were not used correctly resulting in, as an example, the walls being drawn in two different layers.

Is there a command to change part of the drawing to different layers?

You can use the "Property Editor" to move entities to a different layer.

How?
Make sure the Property Editor is launched (Menu / View),
select the entities which has to be moved,
check the Property Editor for "Layer". This field will show you the current layer for those entities. If are entities selected on more than one layer it will show you *Varies*.
Use at the end the drop down icon to select a different (Target) layer or even create a new layer for that move.

Hi RLARMER.

Husky is right. 👍

Also

There is another really neat way to move entities from one layer to another.

1) Select the entities (lines, circles etc) that you wish to move.

2) Then double click on the layer (in Layers Panel) to which you want them moved to. (and the move-to layer can even be hidden which can make entity selection easier)

Have fun with QCAD.

Thanks Husky and Panchdara!! I also found the Property Painter (PI) also will copy attributes of one layer to another...

Select the element(s) that you want to change --> In command line, type "pi" (or Modify>Property Painter) --> click on an element of which you want to change the first selection.

Three ways to reach the same objective.
