Layer of items inserted from part library

Post by andrew » Tue May 18, 2021 8:24 pm

From a QCAD user:
When I insert an item from the part library, it ends up on layer "0". How can I place it on a different layer?

Items inserted from the part library are inserted to the current layer. You can change the current layer using the layer list (View > Layer List).

Note that each item is inserted as a block reference. That is a reference to a block. A block is a group of entities with a name that define the block. Each of these entities is on its own layer.

For example a block reference to block "My Block" might be placed on layer "Layer 1". But the entities that make up the block "My Block" are on their individual layers, for example layer "0", layer "Layer 2", etc. If you want to change the layer of the entities inside the block, you'd have to edit the block or indeed the part library item.
