[solved] Is it possible to copy through point

Post by ouilogique » Fri May 07, 2021 8:36 am

QCAD has a “parallel through point” function, which allows you to quickly create many parallels by clicking on the target locations.

Is there a way to copy selected objects through points in the same way?

How exactly would that look like? Can you provide an example?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Yes I think so ...
Copy with reference ...

Paste @ reference 1
Paste @ reference 2
Paste @ 3
4
..

I guess CVH got it right. The idea is that it is possible to paste as long as you click. The command ends on Escape key press.

You can try the “parallel through point” command (LG). It creates copies of a shape that are parallel to it and passes where you clicked. What I would like is something more general, that applies to any selection and not only to simple shapes like lines or circles.

In fact it is the behavior of AutoCAD copy command. See

Thanks,
Yep, QCAD copy works the same I presume.
Copy takes the selection and Paste places that where you want, endlessly.
Copy with Reference let you choose a base reference.
A simple Copy will use the middle of your selection as base reference.
Same with Cut & Cut with Reference.

OK, I hadn’t noticed that the usual copy/cut/paste commands permit infinite paste. But they lack the possibility to specify the origin (as the mv command does).
So it is close to what I want but not exactly.

What really happens is that the selection is cutted or copied to the clipboard.
From there one can 'Paste' as long as that is not replaced by something else.
Not only untill the paste command is terminated as you stated.

For that one can use the 'with Reference' variants of Cut or Copy.
