Recurring parts

Post by Solo318i » Thu Apr 15, 2021 3:47 pm

I'm still working with text. :) I know I'm stubborn.
If I design a recurring block of text such as a shop logo to drop onto parts before cutting, Is there a way to dimension it properly before I drop it onto the part? I'm struggling with the "scale/move" settings and getting them correct.
So lets say I want the letters to be .5 inches tall, Is there a way to set that before I drop it onto the piece?
I'm hoping I don't have to save a whole bunch of the same logo in different sizes.
Thanks again

You could design the block with a letter size of 1.0, then enter the desired letter size as scale factor in the options toolbar at the top while inserting the block.

Thanks, I'll play with this tonight. If I save the text as a separate dxf file? What is the correct process to insert it into my current drawing?

You can add it as a QCAD library item or simply drag and drop the DXF file from your favourite file manager (for example Windows Explorer or macOS Finder) into the drawing area:

I have this mostly figured out. But, (there's always a but) when I put something from the library into the drawing, it doesn't show the whole item until after I place it. That makes it harder to scale it to fit the space i have on hand. Is this a setting?

Is this a setting?
See: Application Preferences >> Graphics View >> Appearance >> Number of preview Entities

If it is set up as a block, one only has to re-scale the block reference after placement.
Then it is simply a two stage process. Coarse - Fine 8)
