Scale value entry

Post by ryancousins » Sat Mar 27, 2021 3:31 pm

The scale field in the print preview screen will allow ratios written in a form such as "1" = 1'" or "1:2" and return the corresponding scale factor. However, when setting the scale for an individual viewport, you have to enter the factor directly; you can not enter the value in the aforementioned styles. Is this by design? It doesn't make any difference to me either way, I just happened to notice this so I was curious.

This is how it looks on my Win system.

Example for a metric and an imperial drawing:

Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Correct.
When adding a viewport, the list in the scale combo box is different and probably fixed in a 'AddViewport.ui' Options Toolbar widget.
[1,1/2,1/3,1/4,1/5,1/10 ...]
One could file a feature request ...

However, the scale field in the Options Toolbar can calculate and '1:75' would be simply '1/75'.

The scale factor of a viewport in the Property Editor is a factor in plain numbers, and again that field can calculate.

Regards,
CVH

CVH- One could file a feature request ...
I feel like I have probably already exceeded my quota for feature requests lately, so I'm not going to push it with this

It's not a problem at all. For instance, If I wanted a scale of 1/4" = 1', I could just enter "1/48". I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. It's not often that I have more than one viewport on a paper sheet, so I typically just use the scale option in the print preview toolbar anyhow. This would only be something to think about if you have more than one viewport on a sheet and you want them to be at different scales.
