Lineweights are displayed in drawing units in model space (the drawing view normally used to construct geometry).
If your drawing is very large, a 2mm line is still very thin when showing the whole drawing. To see the difference between different line weights, you would have to zoom in alot.
For printing, you would usually fit your drawing on a paper. On paper, a 2mm line always prints as 2mm. In other words, when fitting a drawing on paper, the line weight does not scale down.
To distinguish between different line weights in model space, you might want to use screen-based linetypes in model space. You can enable this under
Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Auto switch to screen based linetypes in model view
Or manually under View > Screen-based Linetypes.
