Importing and using RAL colours - SOLVED

Post by vettawindows » Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:07 pm

Again, hello.
Has anyone successfully imported the RAL colour palette into QCAD?
Or know how to use these colours?

Thanks again,
Alec

The current snapshot release 3.25.2.11 comes with a customizable color palette.

Snapshot releases are not intended for production use. This will very likely also make it into the next stable release.

Yes.
Also Yes. :D

Once:
1. open Application Preferences
2. General / Color Palette / Insert RAL Colors

From now on:
3. Use RAL Colors in every Color related Selection Menu

@Andrew: By the way, colors is a very complicated issue.
E.g.: In QCAD the predefined color for RAL 1003 is #F7BA0B
On http://farbenfinder.de/RAL1003 the color is #F9A800
On https://de.ralcolor.net/signalgelb.php RAL1003 is #E5BE01
What is the right color definition?

Sure, I can change it individually in Application Preferences or in QCAD3.ini but that seems not to be the right way because RAL should be a standard. Isn't it?

Our source was: https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_ral.asp
There can only be one right but which is it?
As far as I know there are no official RGB codes for RAL colors, only approximations. Indeed a "very complicated issue" as you say e_confused

Thats true but I was astonished how much the RAL colors differ from source to source. Not only in numbers but visible.
How ever, I found under http://ralcolores.mrket.net/indexD.php?index=RAL_UP a list of RAL definitions in german.
Feel free to use it.

The use of RAL color palettes is restricted by its license. We will provide a .gpl palette file import instead in the preference dialog and include some free palette files. Licensed users of the RAL palette can also import RAL colors this way.
