From a QCAD user:
How do I hide multiple layers in a hierarchy at once?

Hiding a parent layer by default also hides its child layers.

This behavior can be configured under:
Edit > Application Preferences > Widgets > Layer List > Switching off means freeze

If layers are frozen, the whole hierarchy of layers and blocks under that layer is hidden. This includes all child layers and also all entities in blocks on that layer.
