Paste overwrite block and overwrite layer options

Post by webrider » Wed Mar 09, 2016 8:27 pm

Win7, Qcad Pro 3.4.6 I have been unable to find in the Qcad book nor the help file, explanation of these paste options "overwrite block" and "overwrite layer". Would someone provide a brief explanation of when these two options would be used. Thanks

Let's say you copied a reference to block "myblock" in drawing A. Then you switch to drawing B and paste. If drawing B already contains a block called "myblock", you need to decide if you want to keep the existing block definition available in drawing A or use the block definition from drawing B, hence overwriting the block.

The same applies to layers: if drawing A already contains a layer "mylayer" and the pasted content also has entities on a layer called "mylayer", you need to decide if you want to keep the existing layer with its attributes (color, line type, line weight) or overwrite it.

You can also find this information in the online manual at:
http://qcad.org/doc/qcad/latest/referen ... /doc/Paste

Or in the integrated manual under Help > Reference Manual

Thanks Andrew for two reasons. Your example cleared the air for me and I wasn't aware of the on-line reference manual.
