In the attached drawing I have resized the black (formerly square) polygon, now to a rectangular shape (-40;-30, -40;30, 40;30, 40;-30, -40;-30).
The solid filled (hatched area remained and did not follow the resizing.
How do I correct this?
How do I remove the former hatch?
EDIT: I got some errors saying to look for a block recursion. I deleted to whole polygon and hatch and redrew it. So actually there isn't a problem anymore.

select the hatch. Use the stretch tool to bring it even with the rectangle

Select it and hit the delete key or Edit .. Delete or use the shortcut ER.
Probably a transaction error.
One gets these with Blocks that refer to themselves aka a recursive block definition.
But the warning is also displayed when you want to add or move entities to a locked or frozen or invisible layer or block.
e.g.: Transaction failed. Please check for block recursions and locked or invisible layers or blocks.
When I opened the provided drawing then layer 'Text' was the current layer and that was frozen and hidden.
Adding/moving/importing drawing entities in this state will issue the above warning.
