When I dimension an angle that is interior to two lines, all I want is the dimension without the extension lines (not sure if that's the correct term).
I want this
but start off with this where I have to then get rid of the extensions that overlay the lines in the drawing.
Is there a clever way to get what I want?

Yes it is the correct termDaleEltoft wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 1:18 amWhen I dimension an angle that is interior to two lines, all I want is the dimension without the extension lines (not sure if that's the correct term).
Unfortunately this tool needs at least "a bit of extension lines" but you can shorten them up to get mostly rid of them ...DaleEltoft wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 1:18 am...

Select the angle dim, check the Property Editor for "Fixed Extension Line" - set it to "yes" and choose for "Extension Line Length" something very short like 0.5. Play around what works best for you.

[Solved]Re: Angle dimension includes lines I do not want
I kind of tried that but missed the YES setting. That made all the difference. If I feel ambitious, I'll propose an enhancement. It seems to me that when a dimension is internal (both angles and linear) it doesn't need extension lines. It would be handy if that parameter was changed to just "Extension Line" and the had choices "Fixed, Auto & None".
Re: [Solved]Re: Angle dimension includes lines I do not want
Maybe I missed the point but I can't see any benefit in putting more choices to the extension line. Simple fact is that wether the extension line stays original or manipulated the printed result is always the same. The extension lines are stacked on the angle Legs - you can't see that in a print.DaleEltoft wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 2:59 amIt would be handy if that parameter was changed to just "Extension Line" and the had choices "Fixed, Auto & None".
Which angular dim has extension lines? Which one has none ...

Re: Angle dimension includes lines I do not want
A disclaimer up front: The whole Viewport--Print Layout thing is something I'm just winging as I haven't yet gotten to that part of the book but I think I got it right. Here's are clips from the Export to PDF. I know it's kind of picky but they do show up.
This first one is done using your trick And this one is when I shortened them manually by dragging the attachment point. Not a big deal. It just seems like a way to turn them off would be handy.

Re: Angle dimension includes lines I do not want
Agreed - if you print in Full color mode then I would say you have a valid point. Nevertheless - common praxis with CAD drawings is to print in black and white.

Re: Angle dimension includes lines I do not want
Under QCAD that is ...
Simply supporting DIMSE1 and DIMSE2, two well established controls for dimensions:
- DIMSE1 (R12) – Suppresses display of the first extension line.
- DIMSE2 (R12) – Suppresses display of the second extension line.
They both occur in any dxf file generated by QCAD but are turned off.
