Mac OS 10.13.6
QCad/Cam 3.27.8.0
When I’m using the parallel line with distance sometimes it draws the line the correct distance away other times it doesn’t. I’m just a beginner with cad I’m figuring it something I’m doing wrong but not sure what. Any help would greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Parallel line tool question
Please attach the file of a drawing where you think it does not work as expected and indicate which line is affected and what distance you enter. Please be as precise and specific as possible in describing your problem.
Note that the parallel is constructed to the line that is next to the cursor when clicking, so perhaps the cursor is next to another line.

Re: Parallel line tool question
The 40'4" at the front i parallel the left vertical 10'7" and i get into do it.I move to the other vertical line at the and parallel it to 10'61/2"and get12"61/2".That gives me 17'21/2"in the center. What i'm trying to get is 10'7"- 19'21/2"-10'61/2".I have tried doing it a few ways using different lines to parallel off of. One of them works but then i try another one and get a measurement that doesn't add up either. I'm really new at this i appreciate the help. hope I've given enough information and it makes sense
thanks mike

Re: Parallel line tool question
Hi,
I get a distance of 10'-6 1/2" [126.5"] when I enter 10'6+1/2" or 10'6 1/2" or 10' 6 1/2" in the Option Toolbar.
But I get the same 12'-6 1/2" when I enter 10'61/2" ...
If we break it down: 10' + 61/2" = 10' + 30.5" = 10' + 2' + 6.5" = 12' + 6.5"
Regards,
CVH

Re: Parallel line tool question
I just tried it using 126.5" and it worked that way. Just don't understand why.In your opinion would you just stay with using inches instead of feet and inches.I'm bring to learn anyway i can. Thanks so much for reply.

Re: Parallel line tool question
It seems to treat 10'61/2" as 10 feet and 61 inches divided by 2.
A collision between interpreting feet/inch and doing calculations with arithmetic functions like +-*/ and so on.
I am a metric guy ... Don't ask me.mbcarpenter wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 9:31 pmIn your opinion would you just stay with using inches instead of feet and inches
Just take care to add spaces but not the minus symbol between feet and inches that we see in dimension labels.
Sure, 126.5" is valid too.
