[solved] Viewports

Post by timothywynnjones » Sun Sep 26, 2021 9:38 am

I have taken some time to grasp the concepts of the inclusion of viewports. When using viewports, the Block List shows: 1. Model Space, which contains the main dwg. 2. Layout Space, which contains ALL the viewports, one of which SHOULD include all or part of the main drawing. 3. Inclusion of the main dwg is NOT automatically included in Layout Space. Took a while to learn these points. 4. Can a viewport include details from another dwg or block:? Am I correct in all these assumptions please? Happy days. Tim.

Hi,
Model Space contains the main drawing items.
A Layout Space is how all or snippets of that drawing are presented on a paper.
Only a Layout can have partial views of the drawing as Viewports.
A Layout may show several Viewports.
There can be multiple Layouts showing different parts from a drawing.
We can simply 'draw' on a Layout Space too.

No, it is not required that there is one Viewport with whole the drawing.
One only adds the necessary views to a Layout, and that can be everything.
There is no automatic inclusion of everything from Model Space like the Print Preview.

About Question 4: A viewport can not show things from another drawing.
One can have a Viewport looking at a single Block Reference in Model Space.
And one can also add a Block Reference to a Layout.

Regards,
CVH
