Snapshot 3.24.3.7 / Property Editor / Total area of mixed selection

Post by Husky » Wed Jun 03, 2020 9:36 pm

Hi,

maybe somebody can explain to me what this area calculation is doing - till now I haven't understood it ...

The QCAD Changelog anouncment mentioned a new Property Feature: Property Editor: Show total area of mixed selection of polylines, arcs and circles.

Ok, if I select something like three arcs it tells me "a" Total Area. What I don't understand is which area is covered with that number ...

In my example I thought the Property Editor tells me the sum of this three segments ....

... but if I countercheck with the Info tool that doesn't add up.

Then I thought it will built a perimeter around the selection and the Property Editor compute that area ...

... but that won't match the number too.

Long story short - what "Total Area" is compute by the Property Editor?

For arcs, the area is the area of the sector, not the segment.

Thanks for clarification. I'm sure that is only me but I don't know how somebody could imagine that the sectors are used for the "Total Area".
Again - knowledge is power.

Anyway, after that info I tested a line / polyline combination ...

... and the "Total Area" is only calculated for the area which I later marked with a hatch.

Again - confusing to me. Looks like my understanding for a "Total Area" is different .....

Hmm.. what area would you expect for a line segment?

The "total" properties (total area, total length) simple sum up all the individual areas / lengths of all selected entities. No magic ;)
