[solved] Ordinate Dimension Zero
I'd like to suggest remembering where the ordinate dimensioning zero is moved to, for successive ordinate dimensions. Currently, I place one dimension, pan/zoom as needed, drag the zero point to where I want it (with more panning and zooming). Then repeat the whole process multiple times.
It would be great to set the zero, then successive ordinate dimensions start with this zero.
I could be doing it wrong too.

doesn't Dimension > Baseline give what you're after ?

Not exactly. Yes it gives the same information.
I use ordinate dimensions for electrical panel layouts. Depending on the size, there may be 10-20 items that need dimensioned per side, all referenced back to zero. In my opinion, the ordinate dimension comes out looking cleaner.

probably an example of what you are requiring might be useful

Re: Ordinate Dimension Zero
Could it be that we're not using the same terms? The QCAD Ordinate Dim tool remembers the absolute 0 all the time ...
May I ask you which DIM tools you are using for this task? Sounds like Horizontal / Vertical Dim tools.
Again, something doesn't add up here ...
Yep - that would make things much easier ...

Re: Ordinate Dimension Zero
Sorry this took so long, I've been slammed with work recently. Here is a video link hopefully showing what I'm asking for:
http://www.neanderthalsolutions.com/wp- ... te-dim.mp4
Something I should have added at the end, for 3 ordinate dimensions, moving the origin is no big deal. I do electrical panel layouts, that maybe have a dozen dimensions on 2 axes each, most of which involve panning/zooming to select the points. I think this change would be a big time saver.

Re: Ordinate Dimension Zero
Your point is that ordinate dims take on the world origin on creation.
The moving of the ordinate origin with pick and drag is not a part of that creation action.
That is an editing action of reference points.
A global setting for the ordinate origin is no solution because one can have multiple sets of ordinates with different origins.
Setting a 'use for next ordinates' origin derived from a former editing of an ordinate its origin could be a solution in your case.
It should be possible to implement but then again ... this is prone to user errors.
Setting such manually similar as 'set relative' and 'lock relative' is another solution and is not related to former actions.
All this is developers stuff and you could propose this as a feature request.
Looking at the mp4 there might be a simple work around in the presented case.
Create all the necessary ordinate dims and edit them as a set.
One single pick and drag of the dims mutual origin will do the trick.
Edit: This would be implemented with a the implementation of a (real) UCS.
Not equal to this: https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=5067
But with this feature request from 2012 : https://qcad.org/bugtracker/index.php?d ... ask_id=694

Re: Ordinate Dimension Zero
Great - now I know what you are talking about ...
With the tools we already have "in our QCAD toolbox" I see three solution for your task. To share the first one I recorded a little video.
The basic idea is:
- to limit scrolling/panning with the "View List" (below Widgets),
- to manipulate the origin of the coordinates all together and not every single one,
- to be able to use multiple customized ordinate origins in a drawing (not part of the video but it would work ),

Re: Ordinate Dimension Zero
Thank you all! I believe a UCS was the correct term I was asking for, sorry I didn't search for it first in the forum.
Creating all of the dimensions, then editing the origin of all at the same time will work perfectly.
I've never ever used the views before, I will definitely be checking it out when I start the next panel.
If I need to post a question in the future, I also promise to start with a video. That worked really well
