web version

Post by TreestumpExhaustpipe » Sat Jan 30, 2021 11:52 pm

Long ago I was told that this exists for Qcad, but I cannot locate it.
Is there a web version of Qcad available similar to https://steemit.com/steemhunt/@josephac ... ad-modeler

No, QCAD was not designed to run in a browser.

Something called "Rollapp" is about the closest you could get but note that this is essentially a streaming service that runs QCAD elsewhere and streams the screen to you: https://www.rollapp.com/app/qcad

May I ask why an interactive CAD running in a browser is of interest to you?

Interesting, all though I do prefer to have software on my PC and usable in offline mod.
That's one of the reasons I dropped AutoDesk.
Kept my perpetual licenses and refused to go onto the new subscription model, that involved trading in your perpetual license for subs only.. at a good rate, but then they have you and can up the pricing at a later date..
That's my 2 cents worth 😁
In my opinion Qcad is way better than Autocad (2d)
Use Inventor in VM for 3d..
Cheers
John
PS All AutoDesk products will eventually be online only, Fusion is, Inventor and Autocad on the new subscription model you need to be online after a certain period of time to reactivate /check you've paid your subs...
BTW I'm on AutoDesk Inventor Beta testing team, they already have inventor running in a browser!!
No local installation required...

For a business application for clients to do final configuration of parts themselves rather than to receive a lot of DXF STL and such all the time and to have a consistent pipeline from CAD to CNC.
Will save a lot of time if their designs are uploaded and pre checked onlines and so that the gcode is consistently obtained from a single file type.

Dont know how I got the info Qcad can do it long ago.

I probably need to look at other open source CAD web solutions, so I can change the code to suit my workflow and comply with whatever the open source license is.
Would have been nice if it was Qcad.

That concern of yours I totally agree about. I am no fan of Autocad anymore for similar reasons.
No way I will have proprietary designs saved on a shady cloud service everyome eventually breaks into.

See my case of use I posted in my previous answer. .
As it is way different from what your concern is.
A client needs to send me the Drawing anyway to CNC.

Hi Treestump

Yes I see your point now, I thought you were asking Andrew if Qcad was going to follow in the same footsteps as AutoDesk. That would not be good, I'm all for open source and supporting it too..
Still, interesting topic.. and website link..

Cheers
John
