Re: Option to set RELATIVE coordinates as the default
Hi mwschultz, Thanks for the info, but I think you missed my point. I used to teach Autocad to students at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, and one of the most common complaints was exactly your point. Telling them 'No, it can't be done. Live with it.' doesn't always go down well. Autodesk are...

Re: Option to set RELATIVE coordinates as the default
Hi mwschultz, Welcome to QCAD. You are correct. Once you have placed the first point all further points can be relative to some other point. What I do is use the Snap->Restrict Angle or Length menu option (shortcut EL). This displays the following in the options toolbar. RestrictAngleorLength.png Th...

Re: begin line relative to point
Hi Bottom, I'm trying to begin a line relative to a chosen point (@x,y). I've used it in other CAD programs but can't seem to find a similar command in QCAD. thanks 1. Set relative zero point using two letter shortcut RZ. (see Andrew's post above). 2. Start the 'Line' command. (Two letter shortcut L...

Re: multiple log-in requires
Hi all,
Before the website changed, Andrew told me to click the 'Remember me' checkbox. This seems to give you more time, so I continue to check 'Remember me' each time I login, and it still seems to be the solution.

Re: What Commands Can be Pasted into the command line?
Hi, Looking into this with a windows version of QCAD, I've discovered the problem is with 'SELECTALL' in file 'Qcad Run Commands.txt'. SELECTALL takes so long to complete that the copy command has been and gone before SELECTALL has finished. I don't know of any way to pause or halt QCAD, so the solu...

Re: What Commands Can be Pasted into the command line?
Hi John, I have learned something new today! Thank you. Everything below works except for the CP command "Copy To Clipboard" if I type this manually it works Intrigued by this, I copied your list of commands into a text file named 'macro.txt'. I then copied everything in the file and pasted it in to...

Re: Sum of distances
Hi Roberto, I would like to know If we have sum marked entity in the QCAD like Librecad. I'm not sure what feature you are referring to in Librecad. As far as I know neither Librecad nor QCAD can keep a running total of distances. As Husky explains above, in QCAD you can see the total length of sele...

Re: Setting Number of Significant Figures for Dimension
Hi Kevinti28, So how do I get the dimension to show 10.195 instead of 10.2? To change the precision in the current drawing, go to menu 'Edit->Drawing Preferences'. Under 'Dimension' choose 'Dimension Settings'. Scroll to the bottom, and choose 'Precision' under 'Linear Dimensions'. Change the precis...

Re: Draw poly lines by indicating lengths
Hi ChlCork, You can draw lines just as you did in Autocad. The key to snapping to angles is the snap option 'Snap to Angle or distance', (two letter shortcut is 'EL'). Start the line command, select the first point, then type EL. Four boxes appear in the options toolbar, Angle, Base, Distance , Base...

Re: Compatibility to AutoCAD
Hi JustInchan, So, I have tried to use AutoCAD to open the dwg file created by QCAD and find there is a water mark saying it is created by student version....especially doing print preview in AutoCAD. It is my belief that the Trial versions of QCAD do indeed insert a watermark into the drawings. Pre...

Re: Snap on 45 degree points
Hi guys, My two cents worth. If you have multiple circles to draw the lines in, it might be slightly quicker to use the 'Centerline Cross' tool. Select 'Misc->Draw->Centerline Cross', shortcut 'CS'. centrelinecross.png Set X to 100, Y to 0 and the third box to 'Percent'. The X setting is the size of...

Re: Creating Custom Commands
Hi fratink, Is there a way to add scripts that use the command line in the qcad GUI? Simple answer: No More involved answer: Yes The simplest way to achieve this is to use the 'script shell' (Misc->Development->Script Shell). This allows you to load scripts containing functions, which you can then r...

Re: grid spacing
Hi Caster,
The answer is in 'Edit->Drawing Preferences->Dimension Settings'. You will see that the 'Dimension Label Font' box is empty. Select a font and click 'Apply', and the labels will change to metric.
Hope this helps
