Re: Setting the start of the machining position
So far we've avoided an additional zero point as that might be rather confusing (coordinates between CAD and CAM no longer match). As you see, Home X,Y is also confusing :-) In my opinion, it's just a matter of a proper name. Instead of "Zero" it could be named "machine offset" or something. When g...

Re: Setting the start of the machining position
Hi Andrew, That is something which is misleading for me. In case of GRBL postprocessor, Home X,Y do not affect the position of the tool before any movement (see the g-code above). Path looks different in the QCAD window but in reality the tool always starts its way from the drawing origin (0,0) posi...

Re: Z axis height
Hi, This forum is generally related to QCAD / CAM matters. Moreover, you need to be more precise in your question. However, when CAM program is started, the position of the Z axis is controlled by a g-code. In the Candle software, you can initially move the spindle manually using the arrow buttons o...

Re: Setting the start of the machining position
Hi,
Thank you very much for your all explanations.
Does "Home X, Y"settings have any influence on the g-code? In the above example it did nothing.
Nevertheless, an option that allows to set the new origin of milling would be useful.
Regards,
Konrad

Re: Setting the start of the machining position
Hi Husky, 1. I understand that since setting "Home X,Y" position has no effect, it should be registered as a bug? 2. Thanks for the idea with the CAM template dedicated to the specific machine. Until now, I usually created a new layer with the copy of the detail in the right position. Unfortunately ...

Setting the start of the machining position
Hi, Is it possible in CAM module to set the reference point for the start position of the cutter? Usually, the drawing of the detail is not located close to the default reference point. As a results the machine must perform empty movement (sometimes too long, in my case). I tried to modify values in...

Re: Tabs - again
Hi Husky, I remember my own post  but this time the case was slightly different :D. Regarding the topic: thank you for your all answers. IMHO the simplest solution is to tie the tab to a given line, without any tab width (or more precisely, tie it to a given tool path). The width will be alway...

Tabs - again
Hi, I am writing again regarding the way the tabs are generated. Recently, I was designing a simple detail (foot for my device). Detail was intended for milling. The milling was planned in three steps: cutting the central hole, cutting the entire detail along the outer contour and chamfering the upp...

Question - what future plans for the CAM module
Hi, In my opinion, the CAM module is one of the very strong points of QCAD. It makes QCAD positively different from many other CAD programs available. It was also an argument for me that made my choice regarding the QCAD purchase. I would like to ask if there are any new functions / options planned ...

Re: Exist there a Qcad CAM tool libary for most used tools
I fully agree with Andre_designer. Currently I run a bigger project and I have the same problem. Regarding the database: it could be based on the current solution (e.g. separate dxf files but located in the specific QCAD directory). What we need is the separate dialog called, for example, "Available...

Re: Exist there a Qcad CAM tool libary for most used tools
Hi, I had in mind exactly what Andre_designer wrote. Regarding the tool database: currently I see only two options in "Add CAM tool" dialog (tool type): mill and drill tool. It is a good set to start the database (btw. engraving tools fit in "mill tool" definition). In the future versions of QCAD yo...

Re: Exist there a Qcad CAM tool libary for most used tools
Hello Andrew, Thanks for answer. I know this option but this implies that each individual tool should be saved in a separate dxf file. It is possible of course, however it would be more convenient if one database with several tools would be present. Another issue is that there is a need of additiona...
